The Amazing Spider-Man leaps onto iOS tomorrow
The web closes in
Gameloft's impressive-looking open-world action game The Amazing Spider-Man has flung itself up onto the New Zealand App Store, meaning it'll be swinging down to the UK and US from midnight this evening.
Rather than take the form of a traditional film tie-in (that is to say: a bit of a rush job), The Amazing Spider-Man looks to build upon the foundations laid by Gameloft's Gold Award-winning Total Mayhem, setting the fast-action combat in a large open-world city.
In a similar vein to Batman in the console game Arkham City, Spidey can be upgraded with deadlier combat moves by completing missions, and can block incoming attacks from thugs by hitting a button before the blow / bullet lands.
Unlike Batman, though, Spider-Man also has a web-slinging ability that allows him to quickly scoot through buildings in much the same way as Peter Parker's alter ego did in the Treyarch classic Spider-Man 2.
The Amazing Spider-Man looked promising when we went hands-on with the title back at E3, but we'll see if it can keep up momentum in our full review soon.
The Amazing Spider-Man will be out tomorrow on iOS as a Universal app, priced £4.99 / $6.99.
