The Amazing Spider-Man will be swinging on to Vita using the gyroscope and touchscreen

Well over a year has passed since The Amazing Spider-Man came and went, but only now has it been announced that the superhero movie tie-in game is coming to Vita.

Better late than never, I suppose.

The US PlayStation Blog made the announcement today, and also outlined the unique features coming to the Vita version of The Amazing Spider-Man.

"Peter Parker’s smartphone plays an integral part in how you interact with the city around you, and the Vita’s unique form reinforces these elements", writes Bill Chinn, executive producer at porting house Mercenary Technology.

"The pinch-and-zoom support afforded by the Vita’s multi-touch capabilities makes navigation a breeze, allowing you to effortlessly drag around the mini-map, set waypoints and track your bearings, just like you would with a real smartphone’s map app", adds Chinn.

"And the Vita’s gyroscopic functionality lets you snap front-page photos by aiming the device like an actual camera, zooming in and out with a simple touch."

The Amazing Spider-Man

If you're not familiar with The Amazing Spider-Man game, it takes place after the movie, and therefore has its own original storyline. As well as the expected web-swinging, you'll be partaking in mass brawls, getting all stealthy, and will take on stalk-and-strike challenges.

We said in our review of the 3DS version that "it's not the most original title you'll play all year, but it's well-made enough to constitute a decent but forgettable superhero movie tie-in."

Expect The Amazing Spider-Man to drop onto the PS Vita in the US on November 19th. The UK will will get the game on Vita "later this year".
