Capcom and LG announce global Street Fighter IV HD tournament to promote forthcoming Android Street Fighter IV HD game

Back in September, we covered a deal that would grant LG's 'HD' smartphones exclusive access to the upcoming Android port of Street Fighter IV.

It has now emerged that Capcom and LG are joining forces to promote Street Fighter IV HD by holding a championship.

Hoping to attract some of the world's top fighters, the tournament will invite competitors from North America, Japan, and Korea to compete for cash prizes.

The championship will have an LG Nitro HD division for Android-based battles, and an Xbox 360 division for console fans.

Fight!

Entrants will have to play through a qualification tournament to reach the finals. The five finalists from each division will then be flown to Seoul to finish the fight on Korean TV, with the victors walking away with as much as $10,000.

If you fancy yourself handy with a hadoken, sign up for the tournament now to be ready for the qualifiers on January 14th, 2012.

Street Fighter IV HD will be exclusively available in the US on AT&T's LG Nitro HD handset, and in Japan and Korea on the LG Optimus LTE.
