Inkle reveals the reasons behind the delay to Sorcery! Khare: Cityport of Traps

The second episode of inkle's excellent gamebook series Sorcery! isn't out today.

That wouldn't normally count as news, sure. But the Cambridge-based developer has penned a blog post to explain the delay.

So, what's the reason Sorcery! Khare: Cityport of Traps isn't sitting in the App Store waiting for you right now to download it, eh?

Female of the species

Well, basically, inkle decided to add a female playable character.

Inkle has added her as an update to the original game, too, so you can now play through the whole of the Gold Award-winning first chunk of the adventure as a woman.

"We wanted to have a female avatar in Sorcery! Part 1 on release, but as a small studio taking on a risky project (a mainstream text game? In 2013?) we had to watch our budget closely," inkle revealed.

"Thankfully, the first game did well enough for us to add one now. So when Sorcery! 2 is released in November, you'll be able to start a new game with either a male or female avatar."

But it's not just the addition of a new playable character that's eaten into the game's development time. Inkle has also expanded the book, which is now more than 300,000 words long.

There are 10,000 choices in the game, as well as a new Spell Globe system for casting your magic powers.

You can check the Spell Globe out in the free update for Sorcery! Part 1, which is out now.

Inkle is now aiming to release Sorcery! Khare: Cityport of Traps in November. We'll let you know when we have a more exact date for its release.
