Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable confirmed for US PSP

Although some of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable's thunder is stolen by the Japanese release at the end of 2009, it's still great to hear Atlus confirm its official western release.

The handheld adaptation of the hit PS2 RPG has been given a North American release date of 6th July 2010, though no mention has been made of a European or Worldwide launch as yet. Bah.

The PSP version of Persona 3 isn't a straight port, but an enhanced version that bridges the gap between the third and fourth games in the Persona series. The most prominent addition is being able to play as a female character gaining new Social Links, special events, and unique romantic opportunities (nudge nudge, wink wink).

"Persona 3 introduced a revolutionary social element to role-playing games," says Aram Jabbari, Manager of Public Relations and Sales at Atlus. "Players weren't just progressing through a story; they were a part of it, and their decisions and the relationships they chose to foster or neglect became a powerful complement to the game's satisfying combat. Persona 3 Portable takes everything that made Persona 3 such a tremendous, award-winning hit and translates it into the perfect handheld RPG experience."

Check out the tuneful trailer below, and feel free to use the comments section to berate Atlus into giving Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable a worldwide launch.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
