A beautiful new puzzle-filled adventure is launching on iPhone and iPad at midnight. It's called Shardlands, and we're putting it down as one to watch out for.

The game's isometric camera and strong focus on puzzles reminds me a lot of Tomb Raider spin-off, Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light.

The controls are thankfully far more manageable on the touch screen than that title though. You just tap on the tile you want to move to, and Dawn will saunter off to her destination. Her path is shown as a blue line on the floor so you know which route she'll take.

The game is packed with clever environmental puzzles. There are giant sliding platforms that you can move with your finger, fireballs to avoid, and walkways you can switch on and off.

There are enemies about, too. You can always lead them into these deadly beacons, but there are other ways to defeat then too. You could sneak past, or remove a walkway as they're stomping over it.

It's also got an insanely detailed dynamic lighting engine, a comfortable tone to its soundtrack, 20-odd levels to work though, full support for all Retina and widescreen displays, and Game Center.

Shardlands is out now in New Zealand and it will hit international App Stores by tomorrow morning. This one will set you back £1.49 / $1.99. Expect a full review soon.
