Zach Gage - creator of SpellTower, developer on Ridiculous Fishing - has put two card games in a blender, and come up with something rather interesting.

It's called Sage Solitaire and marries the fun of turning over random cards in Solitaire, and the strategic depth of making special hands in Poker.

You get nine cards, in three rows of three, and must pick at least two cards from at least two different rows to make a hand. That might be a simple pair, or it might be a royal flush.

Depends how lucky, or smart, you are.

You can also trash cards, and sometimes a specific suit will give you a huge score bonus.

Solitaire

"It’s the casual game you know and love, with a little more depth to make it respectable," says Zach. He hopes to do for card games what SpellTower did for word 'em ups.

Sage Solitaire is out on iOS on August 27th. It will be free at launch, with a one-off £2.29 / $2.99 in-app purchase to turn off ads and unlock some extra goodies like bonus card backs.
