And they're looking so good it hurts
Irem has released a new batch of images for its latest R-Type iteration. The game, as previously reported, is not a shoot-'em-up in the tradition of the R-Type series but instead focuses on turn-based tactical play.
Nevertheless, the conflict (set in the 22nd century) sees you facing up to some familiar alien enemies within a reassuringly faithful – and gorgeous – R-Type graphical environment, as evident in the screens above.
The game, which we're looking forward to getting our hands on in a way similar to meeting up with an ex-girlfriend we never quite got over, is currently expected to make its debut in Japan this autumn.
No details of a western release have yet been given, which we obviously take to be a clear indication of developer Irem's twisted desire to tease us.
