Considering it was the game that almost killed Scottish studio Denki, it's good to hear that Quarrel is finally going to be released.

Publisher UTV Ignition has picked up the rights, with the quirky word-based game coming to iOS this summer before branching out onto console digital platforms.

Spelling B

Taking a typically Denki approach to an existing genre, Quarrel offers an original take on the classic word game by combining gameplay elements from the likes of Scrabble, Jumble and Risk. In this way, strategy and spelling are vital if you want to overcome your enemies and - a passion lodged deep in the heart of all anagram fiends - achieve world domination.

Yes, the essence of the game has you making words from the eight letters you're provided with, although the words you create can only be as many letters long as the number of troops you have in your army.

Each word is scored depending on the value of each letter. Of course, you need to win battles to gain territory and eventually control the map.

Adding to the fun, as you make your way through each of the 12 maps set on four worlds, you get to use different troops, ranging from cavemen, ninjas, pirates, GIs, robots and aliens. Modes include Quick Match and Showdown, while the AI players have different skills, word IQ and ways of playing.
