Mad professor minigames head to DS

First look at Professor Layton and the Curious Village

It's been out in Japan for almost a year now, but the start of the new year has seen the release of the first screenshots from the English version of Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

Like a version of Broken Sword crossed with Brain Training, the game packs in a combination of old-skool adventuring and a collection of mini-games. Exploration is done adventure-style with the player having to solve brain teaser puzzles in order to make progress through the twisting story which features the antics of the top-hatted cartoon professor.

What's certainly not old-fashioned however is the way new puzzles have been released every week for download via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection since the game's release. And, though nothing has been formally announced, we'd expect this feature will be available outside Japan too.

Professor Layton is due to be released on February 18th in the US but there's still no firm release date for the UK. But we'll keep you posted on exactly when the Professor will be arriving on our shelves.
