O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: October 31st

Despite the taste of pumpkin still fresh on our tongues, the big Christmas push is becoming visible on the super-console shelves. But does the festive season also affect the mobile games market?

This particular area of the industry feels to fit a different profile; one that isn't subject to seasonal buying trends or prime release dates. Perhaps this is because of the intangible distribution method, and buying a mobile game as a present for someone isn't particularly feasible (although there's a gap in the market there for a savvy games publisher). But by the same token we're undeniably seeing an increase in anticipated games in this week's new releases.

To coincide with the Star Wars animated TV series we're given the mobile adaptation of The Clone Wars along with the latest addition to the James Bond franchise, Quantum of Solace (Bond, in this writer's opinion, being a character far better suited to gaming than to the big screen). Both these franchises are big set to be Christmas sellers, and could make for a welcome wrapping on a new handset.

But what really stands out is the re-release of some already established and popular games like Deal or No Deal (now under the EA Mobile banner, and enabling you to play as the Banker), the Guitar Hero III Song Pack and the official X Factor game – all titles that have previously performed well in the O2 charts are now back for the gaming season. Perhaps the mobile games market is indeed falling in line with console games, and becoming something of an alternative avenue for Christmas shoppers.

Receiving a hot new mobile title via text message on Christmas morn wouldn't be an unwelcome present for the majority of us pocket gamers, after all. Let's see how things play out in the run up to December. New Releases October 31st
