With PSP Slim & Lite out of the way, the big boys come out to play

Last week's focus was invariably the launch of the revamped PSP, an event most publishers expected would command players' attention and suck their disposable income, reflected in the fact that no major game releases were scheduled for that day.

This week we're still seeing the remainder of that commercial strategy, presumably as publishers expect the novel factor of Sony's handheld to linger, but a look at next week gives a very different picture.

Indeed, all bets are off as potential retail giants FIFA 08 and Ratatouille go head-to-head on both DS and PSP. By comparison, other titles don't stand much of a chance but Sega Rally, Race Driver: Create & Race, and Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars, to name the three most obvious, shouldn't be discounted.

It's going to be bloody. Our heart says to go with Pixar's rat but our head shakes sagely, convinced the CGI mammal will be crushed by the rolling retail behemoth that is EA's biggest franchise.

Only Pro Evo Soccer stands a chance at outscoring such a formidable opponent and it's very wisely staying out of the fight for now.
