It's becoming something of a regular Friday morning read, but PSP owners will find nothing monotonous about the fact their console continues to sit at the top of the Japanese weekly hardware charts.

And to do it in such a commanding fashion, too. According to figures released by Media Create (as reported by gi.biz), for the week ending May 4th PSP managed 100,870 sales, with DS clocking up 52,542. Sandwiched between the two was Wii, with 71,518.

For those counting, this puts total PSP sales this year at 1.6 million, against the 1.3 million performance of second-placed Wii.

The PSP resurgence continues, then. It's somewhat at odds with the software releases (which we'll explain next week) but we're not complaining, obviously.
