Okay, hands up – we have to admit we never got around to reviewing Nanostray, an energetic old-school 3D shooter from a little known outfit, Shin'en Multimedia.

Offering a quick and fairly fun blast of frenetic shoot-em-up-ing, Nanostray's main flaws were a lack of DS-specific features and a surprisingly short single-player campaign. (And the fact that it came out when we were overwhelmed playing and writing reviews ahead of the launch Pocket Gamer!)

At least some of Nanostray's weak points look set to be addressed by the just-confirmed sequel.

For instance, Shin'en says that Nanostray 2 will include 'innovative touch screen features' (presumably along the lines of those explored by Nintendo's Star Fox DS).

There's also a promise of various wi-fi functions over the Internet, although no specific mention of multiplayer support via Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection.

"Shin'en again raises the bar for high quality games with never-seen-before graphics, awesome audio and innovative gameplay on the Nintendo DS", said Manfred Linzner, who you won't be surprised to learn is an employee of Shin'en Multimedia.

Still, given they're based relatively near to us over in Munich, Germany, we hope to catch up with Shin'en to learn more about Nanostray 2 soon. Click 'Track It!' to be alerted when we get more.
