Mr. Pumpkin 2: Walls of Kowloon launches early for Android, hits iOS tomorrow

First launch on Steam back in November of last year, developer Cotton Game's Mr. Pumpkin 2: Walls of Kowloon is a point-and-click adventure game that sees you playing as a pumpkin-headed fella working his way through a mysterious city

It's an interesting, highly stylised throwback to 90s Hong Kong cinema that provides a slightly cyberpunk vision of Kowloon's now-demolished "Walled City".

The Walled City, if you didn't know, was an ungoverned, bustling settlement said to be ruled by the Triads – a perfect setting for a video game, I'm sure you'll agree. The game's store page calls it "both a hell and a utopia, formed by intertwined streets, aged buildings, dazzling neon lights, and dark narrow alleys".

This isn't exactly the crime thriller you'd expect, though, instead offering a surreal, but no less human, take on a well-known period of Hong Kong's history.

The hand-drawn art is one of the big draws here, and it really helps to sell the city as a gritty, packed place full of stories and interesting characters.

While I'm not particularly far into it, I've so far quite enjoyed what I've played of Mr. Pumpkin 2. Its puzzles are generally well-designed, its sense of place is impressive, and it's translated well to touchscreens. I have no doubt that it'll please fans of the genre or those interested in the Walled City itself.

If you're searching for a stylish and interesting point-and-click adventure, you'll find Mr. Pumpkin 2: Walls of Kowloon available for purchase now from over on Google Play. It's a premium title priced at $1.99. The iOS version is set to launch tomorrow, April 23rd. You can check out the developer's official site for more info on the Mr. Pumpkin series.
