Limited edition Monster Hunter PSP hits Japan

Sexy, um, brown coloured PSP makes its debut

Limited edition Monster Hunter PSP hits Japan

During 2007's Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced an upgraded version of its popular Monster Hunter Portable 2nd (known as Monster Hunter Freedom 2 in the west) was in the works.

The game, called Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, isn't a full sequel but described more as an enhancement with new monsters and extra adventures. Basically, it sounds a lot like the equivalent of Konami's upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops +.

We weren't too excited about it at the time. Partly because we found Monster Hunter Freedom 2 to be a disappointment that failed breathe any fire into the original version. And partly because there was every chance it would never be released here. The Monster Hunter games are far more popular in Japan where they are the biggest sellers for PSP. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd sold over half a million copies on release day in fact.

But our interest in Portable 2nd G has been piqued by the announcement that its release in Japan on March 27th will be accompanied by that of a special edition Monster Hunter PSP bundle. We're always suckers for a new bit of hardware and we think we like this one, although we keep changing our minds about the colour...

The bundle will retail in Japan for 25,800 yen (equivalent of £120) and include the PSP, a copy of the new game, a carrying case and limited edition wrist strap. A bargain surely. We sense some thousands will be disappearing off shop shelves in Akihabara come March.
