iPhone's Modern Combat: Sandstorm to get multiplayer deathmatches
Team death matches, and every modern man for himself
Gameloft already announced its plans to add multiplayer to its hardcore shooter Modern Combat: Sandstorm, but details have been few on exactly how this will work.
Keeping us on the drip feed for the time being, the mobile gaming giant has just tweeted an intriguing morsel of information.
Apparently this major multiplayer update will bring death match and team deathmatch modes to Modern Combat: Sandstorm, two of the most popular forms of online play for hardcore shooter fans - on other platforms, at least.
This leads to us optimistically hope for full online play - not just local wi-fi or Bluetooth, since arranging enough people into one location for some full-on team deathmatch mayhem seems prohibitively impractical. Chances are it wouldn't work over 3G, but online wi-fi isn't an impossibility.
Gameloft does have its new social networking system, Gameloft Live, ready to fly on iPhone, and we've not really seen what this online add-on is capable of yet, so our optimism might yet prove realistic.
According to Gameloft, we'll be seeing this free update before Christmas, so position yourself precariously on the edge of your seat for more Modern Combat: Sandstorm news as it comes in.
