Morning Star sci-fi universe gains depth with companion interactive graphic novel Alpha

Making a game isn't enough for the most ambitious developers. Now, it's all about your transmedia strategy or offline merchandising channels.

We await to see what US start up Industrial Toys has in store when it comes to plushes, but it's provided some details concerning its plans to expand the universe for its forthcoming iOS sci-fi shooter Morning Star.

Called Morning Star Alpha, this is an app that combines the backstory work created by author John Scalzi with art from comic book artist Mike Choi (X-23, Witchblade).

Turning a new page

Industrial Toys are labelling the approach as "sequential-storytelling", in that it strongly interlinks with the game universe, but is also its own interactive experience.

Notably, you'll have to make some choices within the graphic novel that will affect the story and also be saved to your game account and impact your future game experience.

Of course, you won't have to experience the app to play the game, but Industrial Toys' point is that to fully experience the whole Morning Star world - characters, setting, history etc - you'll want to get your hands on Morning Star Alpha.

Morning Star is due to be released for iOS devices during the spring, with Morning Star Alpha out a month prior.

You can see the teaser trailer for the game below.
