Vectorpark has announced that its playful, interactive alphabet toy Metamorphabet will be out for iOS on February 12th 2015. It will cost £2.49 / $3.99.

Metamorphabet takes you through 26 interactive vignettes each based on a letter of the alphabet. By prodding, stretching, and tickling the animated letters, they morph into new shapes and creatures.

These quirky morphs all represent a word that starts with the letter in that vignette. Patrick Smith of Vectorpark uses the letter 'D' as an example of this:

"[T]he letter D transforms into a creaky wooden Door, which is then pulled open to reveal a luminous Dawn, from which drifting clouds emerge to morph into wondrous, animated Daydreams at the tap of a finger."

The idea is for Metamorphabet to be an accessible and engaging way for children to learn the alphabet, as well as some new words.

But its cartoon-like playfulness, especially the exploration of weight, shape, and sound, has a universal appeal. I should know, I've been delighting myself over the past week or so by playing Metamorphabet in short sessions.

It's such a special and surprising, almost precious, experience that I've found myself trying to prolong its playing length as much as possible.

That it has had this effect on me is no surprise, though. As I had the same attachment to Vectorpark's Windosill.

The same goes for ustwo's Monument Valley which, as Vectorpark points out, was heavily inspired by Windosill and Vectorpark's other digital toys.

Unfortunately, you've still got a month to wait before you can get your fingers all over Metamorphabet. Maybe I would have reached the letter 'Z' by that time.
