Seminal bullet-time shooter Max Payne will blast onto iPhone and iPad tomorrow
Just the man we've been killing to see
One of Rockstar's most iconic games, Max Payne, has landed in the App Store in New Zealand, meaning it will be available in the UK and US at midnight tonight.
Rockstar confirmed last week that this bullet-time shooter would be blasting onto smartphones tomorrow, and we've been looking forward to trying it out ever since the confirmation.
In this iOS adaptation of Max Payne, you follow the titular undercover cop, who has been framed for murder. With nothing left to lose, he goes on a crazy rampage, gunning down mobsters and policemen left, right, and centre on a mission to find those who framed him.
BullishMax Payne's main selling point - at least, back when it was first released - is the Bullet Time feature, which allows Max to jump out from cover in slow motion, and watch as the bullets go flying all around him.
This iOS version comes with Retina display support for the new iPad, and controls tailored specifically for the touchscreen. You can also alter the controls to fit your game style, with multiple aiming modes to choose from.
There's also Rockstart Social Club integration, allowing you to track stats and unlock cheats. All sounds rather spiffing!
The original game was fantastic, so the success of Max Payne on iOS will depend on how natural the controls feel.
Max Payne will be available for all iPad models and for all iPhones from the 3GS upwards from midnight tonight, priced £1.99 / $2.99. It's also on its way to Android devices later this month.
