Rumours suggest Max Payne will slow-mo dive onto the Xperia Play next week

Rockstar Games has announced via Twitter that Max Payne for Android has been delayed by a week or so. The game was originally scheduled to bellyflop onto Google Play yesterday (April 26th).

That delay hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of posters on the XDA developers forums, though, where speculation abounds that Max Payne Mobile will be optimised for the Xperia Play when it debuts on Android.

The reason for this speculation is a screenshot which seems to be taken from a members' only section of Sony's Xperia Zone site that carries the headline "Max Payne coming to Xperia S and Xperia Play Thursday".

It's also worth remembering that Grand Theft Auto III - another of Rockstar's titles - was fully optimised for Sony's gaming smartphone when it hit Google Play back in December.

Take a dive

In our review of Max Payne Mobile for iOS, we noted that the 11-year-old gunplay hasn't aged all that well, and that the game's touchscreen controls are by no means perfect.

Hopefully, an Xperia Play optimisation will clear up the latter problem, leaving Play owners with a solid - if slightly dated -smartphone blockbuster.
