Magicka heading to iOS and Android tablets with its barmy spellbook intact

Though you may not recognise it at first

Magicka heading to iOS and Android tablets with its barmy spellbook intact

Paradox's top-down fantasy RPG Magicka is on its way to the iPad and Android tablets.

However, this mythological spell-casting sim has undergone something of a transformation on its journey from PC to mobile.

To wit, it will arrive on iPad and Android tabs with one fewer visual dimension and a drastically different art style.

Don't worry, though: beneath Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet's flat cartoon facade, the daft heart of the original game beats on.

As in its PC ancestor, Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet invites you and up to three friends to take control of a group of faceless wizards.

These masterful magi like nothing better that laying waste to evil monsters with a never-ending stream of ostentatious spells. In fact, the zappier, the better.

Instead of levelling-up your character in tradition RPG fashion, you increase your character's effectiveness in Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet by combining seven elemental powers to produce progressively more weird and wonderful conjurations.

As you may have noticed from the screenshots above, Paradox has abandoned the top-down 3D presentation of its PC Magicka experience for this upcoming mobile iteration.

Instead, Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet will take the form of a 2D side-scroller, a decision we trust was made to play to the strengths of the tablet format.

As for the in-game experience, we'll have to wait a few weeks before we can get our fireball-flinging hands on Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet and report back to you.
