Vintage puzzler-platformer Lode Runner to be resurrected on Xperia Play in November

The classic arcade puzzle-platformer Lode Runner will be released exclusively on the Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson has announced.

In Lode Runner X, players have to collect all the gold bars in a multi-storey building using ladders and handrails while avoiding guards, with the levels growing in complexity as you progress.

The game was originally released in the '80s for microcomputers like the Atari 8-bit family and the Commodore 64. Extra dimension It isn’t the first time Sony Ericsson has secured a vintage game for exclusive release on the Xperia Play. The announcement comes soon after the exclusive release of the Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning classic side-scrolling shooter R-Type.

The developer behind the game, Tozai Games, is confident the handset will be a suitable platform for such a re-release: “We’re delighted to be launching Lode Runner X on Xperia Play,” Scott K. Tsumura, co-founder of Tozai Games, said.

“The smartphone’s performance and physical controls add a great new dimension to our title which until now has only been available on traditional games consoles.”

Lode Runner X will be out on Xperia Play in November.
