Nintendo: No Legend of Zelda anniversary edition

We won't be seeing all the handheld classics wrapped up in a neat package

Nintendo: No Legend of Zelda anniversary edition

It's the 25th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda franchise this year, much like it was the 25th anniversary for Mario last year.

But while the plumber received his own special edition release with a bundle of his classic games, Link will be receiving no such thing.

Nintendo of America was planning on following up the Mario special edition with one for the Zelda series, but unfortunately the Japanese branch wouldn't allow it. Firing out two special editions in such a short space of time isn't how the big N rolls, according to the latest Iwata Asks.

This seems a little odd, given that Nintendo is releasing special editions of Ocarina of Time and Starfox 64 for the Nintendo 3DS within months of each other.

But who are we to argue? The Zelda series is still having a fun year, with Link's Awakening now in the eShop and Four Swords coming for free later this year.
