Feral Interactive's new trend of try-before-you-buy updates has finally graced their mobile port of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Now, those of you sceptical about jumping into Lara's adventures on mobile can get a taste of tomb raiding completely free before choosing whether to drop your hard-earned loot on a full purchase.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an unusual entry in the series all of its own. A twin-stick shooter that sees Lara navigating the jungles and ruins of Mexico in pursuit of Xolotl, the Aztec god of darkness, she's even accompanied in co-op by the immortal Mayan warrior Totec as they blast their way through hordes of undead enemies.

Those of you who've been wanting to give it a go can run and gun your way through two complete levels of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. And yes, you can even dive into co-op with a friend to give that a try too! And don't worry, because a full purchase will still let you carry over your progression to the rest of the 12 levels.

Turn off that light!

I think that the trend towards try-before-you-buy is overall a net positive. Many people have become sceptical of mobile over the years, perhaps not helped by more than a few free-to-play stinkers (even if we contend there's plenty to enjoy). So anything that restores consumer confidence is a plus.

Outside of that, of course, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light remains a contentious entry in the series for just how different it really is.
