Kingdom Hearts Dark Road is a card-based RPG for iOS and Android that explores Xehanort's past

Square Enix has finally provided further details on its much-discussed Kingdom Hearts mobile game, previously known as 'Project Xehanort'. We now know that the final title is Kingdom Hearts Dark Road and that the game is set to launch this spring for iOS and Android.

Interestingly, it's being tacked onto the pre-existing Kingdom Hearts Union X, allowing you to play two full games from within the same app. While this might seem like an odd decision, it doesn't sound overly confusing, with you being able to launch either game from Union X's menu with relative ease. Such strangeness is to be expected from a series like Kingdom Hearts, I suppose.

Dark Road is said to offer "exhilarating, high speed battles that depend on reflexes", and it'll explore Xehanort's past, shedding light on the path that led him to become the seeker of darkness and a general pain in everyone's side.

While Dark Road and Union X will remain standalone games, Square Enix plans to offer a "Link Campaign" where your medals earned in Union X will reward you with points to trade for cards in Dark Road.

This campaign is planned to happen just the once to celebrate the launch of Dark Road. Plus, only those who have played Union X prior to Dark Road's launch will be eligible to take part, so it looks like Square is also using today's announcement to boost player engagement with Union X.

All the info currently available can be found right here. And if you haven't already done so, you can download Kingdom Hearts Union X from both the App Store and Google Play. It's a free-to-play title with IAPs. Kingdom Hearts Dark Road will launch for iOS and Android this spring.
