Sega’s next Mega Drive to iPhone ports: Gunstar and Altered Beast
Rise from your grave
Sega has lifted the curtain on the next two Mega Drive classics that will be making their way to iPhone and iPod touch.
Up first is Altered Beast, the side scrolling beat-'em-up from Sega. The side-scrolling brawler features Greek heroes transforming in to different animals as they pick up magical orbs. It’s a very standard enemy kicking affair, which hasn’t aged too well.
Originally released for the system in 1989, the game was critically acclaimed back in the day. Nowadays, gamers have slightly soured on the stodgy, plodding game. Probably one for nostalgic retro-heads only.
That’s certainly not the case with Gunstar Heroes. Treasure’s (creator of Bangai-O Spirits on DS) 16-bit blaster is a veritable classic, and as tough as nails. Its best feature is absolutely its ridiculously massive bosses, with intricate patterns to learn before you can even lay a finger on them.
Both games are coming this autumn, says IGN. They’ll likely follow the pricing pattern of previous Mega Drive ports, launching at about £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39.
