Gothic 3 – The Beginning lands German game award

HandyGames has been awarded the top prize for its mobile addition to the Gothic franchise, Gothic 3: The Beginning, at the 2008 German Developer Awards (Deutscher Entwicklerpreis 2008). The awards for the top German console, PC and mobile developments are voted for by the online public in the run up to the event.

"This award is a valuable decoration for HandyGames," said CEO Markus Kassulke. "The user's vote for a 2D-game proves that exciting and diverse gameplay is more important to the gaming community than 3D graphics on a mobile's display."

Gothic 3: The Beginning landed itself a Pocket Gamer Bronze Award back in January, and has become something of a cult favourite for fans of the Gothic franchise. The mobile version has been fully integrated into the franchise's canon by providing a prologue to the PC version of Gothic 3, which itself has seen significant acclaim.

"Such a win motivates us to continue developing brand-new game highlights for mobile phones," HandyGames' Udo Bausewein said. "We already have some innovative new developments in the pipeline for 2009 – the gaming community is right to be curious."

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
