Final Fantasy III coming to iPhone in March

Square Enix releasing remake for iOS devices next month

Final Fantasy III coming to iPhone in March

Square Enix has revealed on Facebook that Final Fantasy III is coming to iPhone and iPod touch sometime in March.

The classic role-playing game was recently remade for Nintendo DS, which we assume is the version that will appear for sale on the App Store next month. Square Enix hasn't confirmed if this iPhone release is the same as the DS version.

Originally released only in Japan, the aforementioned Nintendo DS remake was the first time the game had been made available in the US and Europe.

Building on the turn-based battle system of Final Fantasy and sequel Final Fantasy II, this third instalment features an expanded list of abilities and combat tactics. Experience points make a return, abandoning the highly criticised skill-based system of the second instalment.

Most notable is the introduction of the jobs system that defines character skills and equipment according to specific classes.

Final Fantasy III will be available for iPhone and iPod touch in March; no price has yet been announced.
