How to find what you're looking for on Pocket Gamer
|
N-Gage + DS + Game Boy ...

We're committed to providing you with the very best coverage we can of handheld and mobile games. But all our typing and late night coffee isn't of much use if you can't find the game or the feature you're looking for.

Being egotists, we want you to read as much of our site as possible – so we've built-in the following ways for you to home in on stuff:

  • Search
  • Game Finder
  • The Buyer's Guide
  • Pocket Gamer's Archives
  • Release Calendar
  • The 'Track it!' button

Search: Find anything anywhere on Pocket Gamer

The easiest way to search Pocket Gamer – but not the most precise – you'll find our Search box about halfway down the lefthand column of every page.

Just type one or more words into the top box, and select what format you're interested in with the drop down menu below. Then press Go.

The Search returns with a list of all articles containing ANY of the words you typed in the top box, within the section of our site (Home, PSP, phone and so on) that you selected in the bottom box.

Game Finder: Get the kind of game you want in your sights

Have a yen for PSP driving games? Looking for a party game you played on a friend's DS, but can't remember its name? Then turn to our Game Finder, which you'll find in the top left of every page on Pocket Gamer.

It's super-simple to use. First, select the kind of game you're looking for from the top drop-down menu. Next, select your preferred Pocket Gaming device from the menu below. Then press Go.

Game Finder takes you to a list of all the games we know about that fit your description, including release dates, details of scores if we've reviewed them, and links to our latest articles.

The Buyer's Guide: Big game hunting made easy

If you know what you like but what you like hasn't yet got a name, start with our Buyer's Guide. This enables you to search for the very best of the kind of games you're after – driving, simulation, Hollywood tie-ins, and much more. The Buyer's Guide reports back with the games we rate most highly. Anything average – or worse – doesn't even make the cut.

The standard way the Buyer's Guide ranks games is in order of overall score – highest is best, of course. But if you're specifically interested in innovation, graphics, gameplay or value, you can search by those scores instead.

Remember, Pocket Gamer is subdivided by game devices (PSP, phones, DS and so on). To search for games on a particular format, you can click on its picture under the Buyer's Guide heading. This will take you to the Buyer's Guide for that particular device.

If you want to search across all formats, just ensure you're under (or else click on) the Home tab (top left) before clicking Buyer's Guide. When you're in the Home section, a Buyer's Guide search on racing games will return the best race-based titles whether on mobile phone, PSP, DS, GBA or N-Gage.

The Pocket Gamer Archives: There's a lot of it about

We've written a lot, already. To see all our games coverage in one place, head to the Archive. Here we list all the games we've covered, or plan to cover, and give you an at-a-glance info such as review scores, genre, and the last article we wrote about a particular game.

Select a game name to see everything we've got on that game, or else click entries in the Latest Update column to jump straight to that article. You can also sort results by clicking on the appropriate column header. Finally, the letters A-Z allow you to zoom in alphabetically towards your game title.

As always with Pocket Gamer, select the Archive under 'Home' (top left) to see the listings across all formats, or select under the format tab of your choice (mobile phones, PSP, DS, and so on) to see games for just that machine.

You can also click on the device pictures under the Archive's heading to jump to the Archive for that specific format.

Release Calendar: What games are coming up on our radar?

Wondering when a particular much-hyped game is coming out? This is the place to look. Note, games publishers are more fickle than marriage-shy bachelors when it comes to setting and hitting firm release dates. We keep our Release Calendar as accurate as we can, but we rely on the publishers to stick to their timetables. And often, they don't!

(Put it this way, don't do what we've all done before, and book a week off work six month's ahead of your dream game's pencilled-in release, or you might just spend seven days on your sofa wondering what might have been when it's put on hold).

You can search by all pocket gaming formats (by clicking Release Calendar whilst under the 'Home' tab as usual) or by your favoured games machine (by clicking under your chosen devices tab, or by clicking on its picture under the Release Calendar) so you can see exactly what's coming your way (and start your saving or spending!)

The 'Track It!' button

Towards the top right of our game-specific news stories, previews and reviews, you'll find a little 'Track it!' graphic. Click on it, and the room-sized computers at Pocket Gamer HQ will make a note that you're interested in that game, and will alert you via an email when we write something new about it.

You can also see the latest on all the games you're tracking on your personal Profile page. After all, mighty as our search features are, nobody wants to look for the same thing twice. And thanks to this innocuous little button, you won't have to.

Note: you must be registered to use 'Track it!' and to have your own profile page. Not registered? Don't hang about: go and register right away!
