Ferrari and TAG Heuer enter the relentless mobile race as the latest iPhone killer emerges
It's the weekly Pocket Picks round-up

There was quite a bit of handset news flecking the pages of our beloved sister site, Pocket Picks, throughout last week. Or rather, we should say there were a lot of handset rumours, leaks and revelations last week.
The first item to really get our chins wagging was HTC's announcement that the company will hold a special event in May. Having heard all sorts of bits and pieces about the HTC Dream, and knowing full well that the company has vowed to launch an Android phone by mid 2008, we went into full-on speculation mode.
There was much more rugged handset news with the announcement of the successor to the original Hummer branded phone, however, called the HT2. And the automotive theme endured throughout the week, with a TAG Heuer phone (the company is best known for its high-end chronograph watches but it did used to manufacture F1 car parts too, don't you know) dubbed the Meridiist, soon followed by a Ferrari handset known simply as the F1.
But what of those rumours and revelations? Well, they appeared reverse order both courtesy of Nokia, first with the muted reveal of the company's forthcoming 'iPhone killer' full touchscreen handset, currently termed Tube. Then the rumours really started pouring in, with various sites claiming insider knowledge of the specs which we rounded up and reported in one bumper post.
But the handset news didn't stop there. There were also two watch phones strutting their stuff this week, the G108 and the WM2, which to our delight were both pretty neat sounding devices.
And so we have managed a whole five paragraphs without mentioning the iPhone. Well, apart from that Nokia Tube reference above. But as is inevitable these days, Apple's techie darling commanded a fair bit of attention (though less than usual). First, there was some good news for German mobile lovers as T-Mobile savagely slashed the price of the iPhone from EUR399 to EUR99.
Then there were rumours about what the forthcoming 3G version will cost when it hits the States, with many settling on the $399 mark as a solid guesstimate for an entry price.
Last of the iPhone stories concerned the fancy pants new BD Touch technology and how it might be used to make Blu-ray films watchable on the iPhone.
The best of this week's applications were all location-based, first with a geotagging app for S60 phones called Adnota GeoTag and then with a very fancy application for Windows Mobile phones, the Navi2Go, which is basically a mobile take on Google Earth albeit with extra GPS loveliness. Indeed, the prevalence of location-based mobile apps is apparently set to 'explode', according to one analyst.
For those of you who've been regular Pocket Picks readers, you may have noticed the two feature articles we did this week, which are something of a new thing for us. The first took a look at the future of open virtual worlds on mobiles, while the second was a light-hearted round-up of all the ways in which your phone can land you in hot water. Expect to see plenty more of that kind of thing in the coming weeks.
And lastly, some of this week's more left-field news snippets. Parents are soon to start getting head lice alerts via text message, NTT DoCoMo is testing smelly ringtones and Jamster has released an application called One Night Stand Checker to help you to decide whether it's a good idea to acquiesce to the lustful intentions of that person at the other end of the bar throwing smouldering looks your way (if only!).
That's it for now, then. Remember to click 'Track It!' to catch next week's Pocket Picks round-up.
