Dungeon Defenders set to be first iPhone game leveraging Unreal Engine

Tower defence game Dungeon Defenders is set to be the first publicly available iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad title that uses Unreal Engine 3.

The game, which is being developed by independent studio Trendy Entertainment, was initially announced as a downloadable title for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Kotaku points out a forum thread on the game's official website in which Trendy Entertainment's managing director Jeremy Stieglitz has posted video of the game being played on three iPhone devices and an iPad.

It's an impressive demonstration of both graphics and gameplay. The game manages high detail and solid performance and the gameplay looks equally promising. It appears much in line with the active style of tower defence that made PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe a hit on PSP.

Along with providing a glimpse of the game itself, the video is sure to make you smile when a member of the development team refers to tower upgrades as "level-ups." Priceless.

With Dungeon Defenders set for release on consoles and PC, the question to be raised is whether the iPhone and iPad versions will be released at the same price. If not, will content will be stripped in lieu of a lower price?

Dungeon Defenders will be available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad later this autumn.
