Dragon Quest Tact is an upcoming tactical RPG for iOS and Android that'll be released in Japan later this year

Square Enix has been on a small, mobile game announcing spree lately. Last week we learned about an upcoming Kingdom Hearts game, which we now know will have the subtitle Dark Road and today they've unveiled Dragon Quest Tact. News of the announcement was first spotted by Gematsu

It will be heading for both iOS and Android later in Japan later this year. There's currently no word on global release but Dragon Quest has certainly grown in popularity over the past few years so I wouldn't be surprised to see it become available everywhere eventually.

There are very few details at the moment, as is often the case when Square Enix first unveil a new mobile title. We do know that it will be a tactical RPG where battles will take place on a grid-based map. Beyond that, there will most likely be some monster collecting - gacha elements involved - as it seems very focused on team building.

Though the game is being published by Square Enix, developing duties will be handled by Aiming Inc. They've worked on several RPG titles for phones such as Logres of Swords and Sorcery, Caravan Stories and Lord of Knights, so they're definitely well-versed in the RPG genre.

Avid fans of the Dragon Quest series will be pleased to know that the game's director will be Yuji Horii, who is the creator of Dragon Quest. So, you'd hope that his passion for his own creation means the game will deliver an experience that long-time player's of the franchise will be looking for.

Dragon Quest Tact will release at some stage in Japan during 2020 and will likely head West if it's well-received. It will be a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. If you'd like to be kept up to date – and don't mind using Google translate – you can follow the game's official Twitter account or head to their official site for more information as it arrives.
