Dragon Quest IX on DS breaks 4 million units barrier

Becomes best selling Dragon Quest game ever

Dragon Quest IX on DS breaks 4 million units barrier

Square Enix and Nintendo are collectively throwing their hats in the air today as Dragon Quest IX becomes the best selling addition to the prolific franchise ever.

The DS-only game topped out the previous bestseller Dragon Quest VII, which pushed an impressive 4.14 million games onto the PlayStation back in 200. Dragon Quest IX has apparently just shipped 4.15 million units since its Japanese release in July of this year.

Although Nintendo can now thumb its lapels in Sony's direction for sporting the biggest Dragon Quest game of all time, Square Enix is allowed to play it a bit cooler as it predicted massive sales right from the start.

For all its massive success, Dragon Quest IX is still only available in Japan. What's that all about, then?

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
