Dogs will have their day in Dig Dog - Treasure Hunter, the follow up to Box Cat and SHAARK!
The incredible journey
Indie dev Rusty Moyher is back with a new platformer in his characteristic retro style with Dig Dog - Treasure Hunter. It’s the latest in a number of clever animal-themed games from this developer, though we particularly liked Box Cat quite a bit way back when it launched in 2011. In Dig Dog, you play as, what else, a fluffy puppy on an epic quest to dig up delicious bones. As you dig further and further into the earth, you’ll realize that this is actually quite a perilous task. You’ll find traps, enemies, and endless miles of dirt all standing between you and your tasty treat.
The game definitely has a roguelike feel to it with a distinct Commodore 64 vibe. In the trailer (above), you can see the player dying over and over again as they doggedly try to progress. There are no game overs though, and progress is saved incrementally, so at least we’ll be saved that headache.
