EA releases five iPad marquee titles early on the UK App Store

Apple’s iPad may not be landing on UK shores until the 28th of this month, but that hasn’t stopped games giant EA from muscling in on some pre-release action for Steve’s magical and revolutionary device.

As of ... well, NOW, five of the US publisher’s fiercest franchises, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Need for Speed: Shift, Tetris, Boggle and Scrabble, are available in the UK App Store.

Unfortunately, one of the coolest elements of Scrabble for iPad, the free tile rack app, has yet to see the light of day in Europe.

The virtual rack allows nearby iPhones and iPod touchs to not only sync with the current iPad game but also look up potential triple-word scores in the embedded dictionary.

All without giving your hand away, of course.

No word yet on release dates for HD versions of existing iPhone hits, such as FIFA 10, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, Madden NFL 10, Spore Origins, SimCity, and The Sims 3: World Adventures.

The eagerly-anticipated, gold-winning Mirror’s Edge for iPad is also conspicuous by its absence, but we suspect that it’ll race onto the UK App Store sooner rather than later.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert is available now for the iPad at $12.99 / £7.49 / €10.49.

Need for Speed: Shift is available now for the iPad at $9.99 / £5.99 / €8.99.

Tetris is available now for the iPad at $7.99 / £4.99 / €5.99.

Boggle is available now for the iPad at $4.99 / £2.99 / €3.99.

Scrabble is available now for the iPad at $9.99 / £5.99 / €8.99.
