Sid Meier's turn-based epic Civilization Revolution has received a monster update on both iPhone and iPad.

This strategy game has you leading a civilisation from the dawn of man to the modern age, building up an empire and getting in scraps with rival clans. You can win a campaign through multiple means, like wiping out the competition or becoming a leader in technology.

The update gives the game a visual overhaul. On iPhone the graphics are updated to better fit Retina display devices, but both versions will see improved terrain textures, new resource icons, improved unit icons, and animated water, seagulls and fish.

The iPhone version now features the Scenario Generator, which was previously exclusive to the game's tablet edition. This lets you create your own challenges, giving you more to do once the in-built campaign is over.

Both games get iCloud support, so you can save your game to Apple's servers. If you've got both versions of the app you can share save states, so you can start a game on iPad, for example, and finish up on iPhone later.

Finally, both versions of Civ Rev have received Game Center support, offering 29 achievements.

Civilization Revolution for iPhone costs £4.99 / $6.99 / €5.49, while the iPad edition will set you back £8.99 / $12.99 / €10.49.
