FarmVille developer Zynga has announced its plans to bring a brand new freemium game to iOS devices.

CityVille Hometown will be a slimmed down version of Zynga's popular Facebook game CityVille, which now pulls in more than 90 million players a month.

Like its bigger brother, CityVille Hometown will allow you to create a town from scratch, earn coins through building and other tasks, and farm for resources to stock your local stores and restaurants.

You can even drag your Facebook friends along for the ride, swap and trade resources and energy with them, or gift them special limited edition items.

Chatting to VentureBeat, Zynga's general manager Justin Cinicolo revealed that the game's focus isn't on building a big town, but instead constructing a homey place that's personal to you.

“It’s all about creating your hometown that represents you. You can share that town with your friends. It’s more about setting your town apart than getting the biggest town.”

CityVille Hometown will, of course, be free to play, but will also contain plenty of opportunities to spend real cash on special items and buildings.

It will be available in Canada starting this week and will roll out across the globe in the following weeks, with new features and updates to be released periodically.
