Solo developer Lewis Costello has announced the official release of Birdbrain, his humourous casual game about a bird trying its best to survive - dodging angry farmers and deadly laser beams included. A labour of love during lockdown, the game is an impressive feat created by a British stand-up comedian with no prior background in game development.

Birdbrain lets players engage in a little bit of aerial platforming and manoeuvring while enjoying a humourous narrative at the same time. Players will be able to compete with others in the game's Arcade Mode, while the Story Mode tasks them with rescuing Papa Birdbrain from the evil Collector.

The game also features voice work and dialogue written by Costello himself, with the vocal chops of popular voiceover talents Adam Diggle and Alex Lowe.

"It's quite strange to play a video game full of Lancashire accents. You expect to hear a thick American drawl, and the next thing you know, a farmer is hurling his pitchfork at you, shouting at his wife to ring the RAF," says Costello. "I wanted to make something fun for kids, but nothing that was too easy for adults to enjoy. Judging by how many times I've crashed Birdbrain into a brick wall, I'd say that goal has been achieved."

If you're eager to give it a go, you can download Birdbrain on the iOS App Store or on the Google Play Store for Android devices. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. You can also have a look at the embedded trailer above to get a feel of the charming title.
