Assassin's Creed II: Discovery arrives on iPhone unexpectedly

Update: Ubisoft to pull game, wrong version released

Assassin's Creed II: Discovery arrives on iPhone unexpectedly
UPDATE: We've been in contact with a representative of Ubisoft who has confirmed that the release was premature.

The game is being pulled from the App Store. £6.99/$11.99 is not the final price and a newer version of the game will be released soon.

Original story: Assassin's Creed II: Discovery has found its way unexpectedly to the App Store.

After an unannounced delay from the original November release, the game has suddenly appeared for a whopping £6.99/$11.99. Needless to say, it's surprising in more way than one.

Ubisoft is clearly trying to establish a new premium price point with Assassin's Creed II, which is in fact a remixed release of the much more expensive Nintendo DS version release in November.

Considering the DS version costs £25/$30, this iPhone release rings up at well under half the price. From that perspective, it's a true bargain; how it will fare in a market dominated by 59p/99c is the real question.

If our review of the DS version is an indication, quality won't be a concern.

We've already started in on the game, so expect a full review shortly.

Assassin's Creed II: Discovery is available now for iPhone and iPod touch for £6.99/$11.99.
