It's that time again! Time for another entry into our long-running GAMES OF THE WEEK series.

If you're looking for the best 5 games which have hit the iPhone, iPad or Android stores this week then you've landed yourself at the exact right place at just the right time. Lucky, lucky you.

With this article, we skirt around the droves of subscription services (Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass, GameClub, Hatch, and all of their friends) which have launched onto mobile platforms over the years. We also don't factor in things like Steam Link or Google Stadia which allow streaming to handheld devices - and would open up this list to almost every game under the sun.

What that means is that our list is a finely curated list of brilliant, fresh titles which you can download and play without subscribing to, or installing, any third-party initiative. Of course, there are some great games on those services, but, let's focus on the stuff that you can grab right now.

From explosive arenas filled with bomb-slinging robots to dangerous driving through neon-soaked skylines, we've got a killer selection for you this week, so read on to find out more.

Oh, and remember, that if you're looking to check through some of our previous selections then you can always do that at our Games of The Week Hub, it's a great way to find games to fill out that empty storage space on your phone. Or, if you like your news in bitesize chunks, delivered straight to your palm then maybe follow us on our Twitter.

Anyway, without any further delay, click on the big, blue button below to find out more about our top five of the games which released on mobile over the last week.

1
Neon Flytron

Available on: Android
Genre: Arcade
Find out more about Neon Flytron
Neon Flytron

It's cyberpunk season, that's for sure. But something that's still relatively untouched is those neon-soaked skyscapes - specifically the ones dense with cabs and hovercars, all rushing off to their own destination. Neon-Flytron feels especially aimed at my (rewatch of The Fifth Element inspired) sudden want for some reflex-testing, cyberpunk driving.

While the city is certainly a bit denser packed than might be expected, as you are basically surrounded by walls on most sides, it's still a fun experience and it's a runner which really benefits from great design and aesthetic.

Neon Flytron is available via Google Early Access, where it is free to play.

Find out more about Dead Cells
Dead Cells

It's been 10 long months since Dead Cells launched on iOS, so I wouldn't blame a few of your Android users if you'd started to think that you'd been forgotten. Well, worry not, Playdigious has just released the Android port of Motion Twin's classic roguelike, Castlevania-inspired romp.

We've not actually given the Android port a go just yet, but if the fantastic iOS port is anything to go by then you can expect an experience almost identical to PC, with the only real changes being the added, customisable controls.

Dead Cells is available now on Google Play as a premium title, It's also on almost every other format going now.

Demon Blade has been around in some shape or form for at least a couple of months now, but it;s now finally at its release state (even if the version numbers are racking up). It's the latest in the recent trend of action-duel titles, however comes complete with a fantastic samurai vs oni theme, as well as some very in-depth customisation options.

2112TD

Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Strategy
Find out more about 2112TD
2112TD

The tower defence genre has been around for absolute ages. In some ways, it is an evolution of both real-time strategy and the arcade base-defence seen in the likes of Space Invaders. It's impossible to deny that it's quite a worn our subgenre now, but sometimes rather than innovating there's another way to make an interesting offering of something we've seen a little too often, and that's aesthetics or nostalgia. 2112TD takes the classic, Westwood RTS art-style and matches it up with TD, and it turns out that it fits really, really well.

While 2112TD doesn't innovate the genre into something new, it really delivers on the classic cornerstones of it and it does it with a lovely, refined art style. It's a thumbs up from us.

2112TD is available as a premium title on Google Play. You can also grab it from the App Store.

Bomb Bots Arena

Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Action, Puzzle, Retro, Strategy
Find out more about Bomb Bots Arena
Bomb Bots Arena

I don't know about you, but I've been waiting for a Bomberman successor for quite some time. It's a simple enough formula, but one that we really don't see many people trying to remake, or rekindle. Bomb Bots Arena is an online multiplayer game which uses the bomb-placement and trapping mechanics of the Bomberman IP and adds its own twist.

There's a variety of abilities, customisation options and, of course, the sleek robot theme. As well as that, you can also (somehow, - I have no idea) rig up four controllers to your phone and play local multiplayer as well.

Bomb Bots Arena can be downloaded for free on the App Store. You can also grab it on Android, download Bomb Bots Arena free to play on Google Play.
