Tom Clancy's Elite Squad has now soft-launched for Android

Tom Clancy's Elite Squad has now soft-launched for Android over in the Philippines. This one's a turn-based strategy game that tasks you with assembling your very own crack team of Ubisoft's best-known characters, including the legendary Sam Fisher.

It was first revealed all the way back at E3 2019, and after a spell of relative silence, it was announced that the game would launch first for Android devices later this year. It was also made clear that it would roll out gradually across a number of regions.

Being the all-knowing soothsayer that I am, I correctly predicted back in February that Elite Squad would launch first in the Philippines. Just ignore the part where I also list New Zealand and Australia as possibilities.

The game itself looks decent enough, offering a stylised aesthetic that makes it stand out from the countless drab military shooters on the mobile market.

Firefights here aim to offer fast-paced, accessible action, focusing on 5v5 PvP multiplayer. Rewards up for grabs include characters from Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, The Division, and Ghost Recon. Admittedly, I don't know the vast majority of these guys, but that's not to say that others won't see, um, Megan from The Division and instantly flip with excitement.

As PocketGamer.biz points out, the game is in development at Ubisoft's Paris-based Owlient studio. That's the team behind Horse Adventure: Tale of Etria, which no longer appears to be available for download.

If Tom Clancy's Elite Squad is to your liking, you can pre-register your interest over on the game's official site. There's currently no pre-registration campaign going on, but that's no doubt likely to change as we grow closer to its iOS and Android launch later this year.
