It's Thursday. Thursday is the day when loads of new mobile games come out. It's also the day when we pick five of those new games that we think you should definitely be playing. Essentially we're saving you the effort of trawling through a bunch of rubbish games to find the gems - we've already done it. You're welcome.

This week hasn't been the greatest in terms of new games, but there are still some titles out there that are definitely worth your attention. We've got puzzlers, shooters, word games, board games, and more. We've included download links as well, so you're very few clicks away from being able to grab one of the games if it tickles your fancy.

While you're here, if you click here you can bookmark our Games of the week hub, which updates every time we add one of these here articles. It's a great way to make sure that you're only ever playing the finest experiences that mobile gaming has to offer.

And make sure you're friends with us on Facebook, and you're following us on Twitter as well. We like having digital friends, it makes us feel better about ourselves, and it means you'll get all the latest news, reviews, and opinions that we chuck out in super quick time. You might even see some competitions out there too.

That covers pretty much everything we had to say, so let's get on with the games. You're going to need to click to expand the list with the link below to find out what they are - and make sure you let us know in the comments what you think of our choices, after all, they're choices we made for you.

Word Forward

There are word games out there that hold your hand and make things as easy as possible. Then there are games like Word Forward - sure, it's easy to play, but you're going to have to think long and hard about every move you make. Essentially it's a word search, but with no word list to find - it's all on you.

Clear all the letters from the board and you move on to the next challenge - you've got boosts and buffs to use to help, but for the most part it's your logical thinking that's going to get the job done. Sure, it's tougher to succeed in Word Forward, but the feeling when you do is pretty damn special.

Drive

This one's actually called #Drive, but I'm not going to type that more than once, because it takes me too long to find the hash key. It's an endless driver that sees you pelting your way along an obstacle-strewn road. Your job is to get as far as you can before you run out of fuel or crash.

You have to pop into petrol stations to get fuel, and there are garages that will repair your broken car as well. You'll earn coins that you can use to make your car stronger, and tokens to unlock new levels. It's simple, elegant fun, and the perfect game to kill a few minutes with.

Evolution 2

A midcore cover shooter that's all about burly men with more neck than brain shooting anything that moves. Think a less subtle, far less complex Gears of War and you're getting there. It's the sort of game that delivers little bursts of violent action that are a splendid fit for gaming on the go.

Some of you won't like it's free to play system, but it's nowhere near as annoying as others we've seen, and it doesn't detract from the shooty bang bang silliness. It could do with a little bit more interaction, but there's a solid rhythm to the play here that's going to keep you coming back for more.

Talisman: Origins

Another Talisman game isn't going to change your opinion on Talisman, and that's fine. But, if you love the luck-rather-than-skill play of the original board game, and you don't have many online friends, this is the perfect version for you thanks to its focus on single player gaming.

There's a whole bunch of content for you to sink your teeth into, and the solo concept gives the game a more roguelike feel than its multiplayer predecessors. It's nice to see devs trying something different with their board game properties, and we'd love to see more of it moving forwards.

New Dawn: Solar Explorer

What would happen if Flappy Bird was a serious game rather than a throwaway piece of rage? It'd be something like New Dawn: Solar Explorer. It's a game about landing a spaceship on a planet. But this is more of a simulation than an arcade game - and you're going to crash an awful lot.

The controls are simple though, seeing you tapping and pressing the left and right of the screen to fire rockets, or pressing both sides at once to fire your main engine. There are asteroids to avoid, and you need to stay in the landing window (represented by red lines), or you're going to start taking damage. It's a challenging but small game, and sometimes that's exactly what you're looking for.

Harry used to be really good at Snake on the Nokia 5110. Apparently though, digital snake wrangling isn't a proper job, so now he writes words about games instead.
