Out at midnight - Civil War: 1864 asks us to refocus our tactics on the Union and Confederates

Civil War: 1864 is the next installment in Hunted Cow's strategy game series set during the American Civil War.

The game allows you to play on both the Union and Confederate side. Either way, you'll be pushing infantry, gunboats, and cavalry around a battlefield to secure your victory.

Confusingly, the last game in this series was Civil War II: 1862, which was released in November 2013. The first one was Civil War: 1863 and that came out back in 2012.

To look at those dates, you'd think that Hunted Cow has taken its time with each of these games. Hopefully that is the case.

The reality is that Hunted Cow has been churning out its Tank Battle series in between the Civil War games. The last one was Tank Battle: East Front 1945, and that's only two weeks old at this point.

In any case, Civil War: 1864 isn't all that different to the previous Civil War games. For the record, that means it's probably about a six on our scoring system.

There is a new map zoom feature, mind. Plus, the battle conditions have been shuffled to match the history, of course.
