Check the level of your Traps after an attack as after the chaos of battle it's easy to miss the fact they've been deployed. Replenish them as required, and remember you don't need Builders to place Traps.

Place your Defenses so they're close together and can protect each other. This also means they can attack enemy troops simultaneously, causing more immediate damage.

Place Builder's Huts / other insignificant building in corners of your map to make it harder for opponents to score 3-Star attacks before the time runs out.

If you're midway through upgrading your Walls, consider alternating the higher / lower level Wall blocks.

Leave non-crucial units like Barracks, Army Camps, Laboratory, Spell Factory, and Builder's Huts outside of your Walls. This will give you more flexibility to arrange a better defended village. Consider leaving out your Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors, too. (As long as you empty them on a regular basis.)

Multi-layered Walls are obviously stronger than single layer alternatives. Design your village with this in mind.

Do'’t place your Defenses in a spot that will enable enemy Archers to attack them from outside your Walls - ensure you have non-combat units (e.g. Barracks) next to the outside of your Walls to create a 'cushion' (and it'll take the attention of the Archers, too, while your Defenses step into action).

Consider moving Hidden Teslas to one side while you're upgrading them so as to not give their intended location away - a wisely Clasher looking to come back for subsequent attacks would otherwise be able to pre-empt them.

Upgrade all of your units before upgrading your Town Hall to the next level.

Screengrab your village at various levels of arrangement should you ever want to revisit a previous set-up.
