We do like a good indie darling here on PG, so the just-released Wizorb for iPhone and iPad has got our excitement nerves a-tingling.

It's already received plenty of acclaim on the Xbox Live Indie Game circuit, where it's been praised for the way in which it fuses old skool Arkanoid / Breakout gameplay with an early '90s JRPG art style.

If your head hasn't exploded at that commingling, by the way, well, there are plenty of forward-thinking games around for you. Now, leave us to wallow in our shameless nostalgia.

Of course, this particular combination of game styles - block breaker and RPG - is actually quite a fresh one. In Wizorb, for instance, you're breaking blocks with bat and ball while also having to utilise spells, make upgrades, and negotiate gigantic boss battles.

Another item on the indie darling credential sheet is the source of Wizorb's character animation - one Paul Robertson, whose detailed anime style has won a lot of fans.

Wizorb is out now on iPhone and iPad for £1.99 / $2.99.
