Masahiro Sakurai confirms 3DS edition of Smash Bros is lower priority than Kid Icarus: Uprising, new fighters yet to be decided
A long time to wait
Game designer and producer Masahiro Sakurai has revealed in an interview with NowGamer that the new Smash Brothers title, meant to be released on both Wii U and 3DS, is not his current priority.
This is because Sakurai is beavering away on Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS (see our hands-on here), and he “will think about [Smash Bros] once Kid Icarus is complete."
As well as this, Sakurai admits that there is a serious shortage of new characters that can be introduced into the 3DS Smash Bros game.
Whilst the list of fighters has yet to be decided, Sakurai concedes, “it is true that Nintendo has not created many new characters lately."
The wait is bound to disappoint many fans who have been eagerly anticipating a handheld update of Nintendo’s flagship fighting game.
European fans of the series may well remember the biblical delays in the production of Super Smash Bros Brawl, with it eventually being released in June 2008, four months after it touched down in North America.
