3DS

At 9am today L.A. time (5pm in the UK), Nintendo will deliver its E3 2011 press conference.

We're eager to hear what the next year has in store for the Nintendo 3DS, from the retail games to the eShop updates. Whatever Nintendo divulges could make or break the eShop, so no doubt it's going to be exciting stuff.

We're also looking forward to catching a glimpse of the next Nintendo console, rumoured to have portable gaming devices as its controllers. What exactly will this screen-bearing controllers be able to do? We'll find out later this afternoon, no doubt.

Check back here at 9am / 5pm for Pocket Gamer's Nintendo E3 2011 event liveblog or view the official stream from Nintendo's website here.

10:16 - Thanks for joining me today! I've been Will Wilson and you've been a fantastic audience.

Remember, we're going to have a hands-on with the 3DS titles up on site soon, stay stay peeled to Pocket Gamer over the next few hours for those

10:14 - Still, Nintendo has really impressed with this presentation. While the portable side was more reassuring (in that there was a lot of familiar titles on their way soon), the home console side has thrown a real spanner in the works

10:13 - No word on release date or price for the new console. Probably too early - they didn't even reveal the specs or the look of the actual console.

10:11 - Battlefield 3 coming to the system as well. Nintendo are very much reaching out to the core with this one

10:06 - Some good games being demoed here, including the new Metro 2033 game, and Ninja Gaiden

10:05 - That means it must have at least the same power as the Xbox and PS3 if it's running those games.

Which, lets face it, shouldn't be that surprising given that those two machines are five years old now

10:04 - Woah, lots of core games on the Wii U - including Batman and Assassin's Creed

10:02 - 3DS and Wii U will be getting LEGO City stories. Again, no word on if there's a link up or what that might be.

10:00 - Talking about the range of games that will be on the Wii U that demonstrate the controller. Like Chase Me that uses Wiimotes and the new controller

09:57 - Smash Bros on 3DS! It links up to the Wii U version in some way. No details yet

09:54 - It's crazy how much stuff that thing can do - zoom into bits on screen, act as an extra screen, act as a motion aiming device (like a scope), act as a seperate place to continue to play games, act as a standalone system for playing touchscreen games.

And that's just some of the stuff I can remember from the promotional video

09:51 - The touch screen is 6 inches, it's backwards compatible with the earlier controls.

I can see why they showed it before actually showing the console. It's immense

09:50 - We're still reeling here at Pocket Gamer towers from that controller demonstration. Seriously - minds are blown here. Nintendo has outdone itself again.

09:49 - Wow.

09:46 - Oo! The new controller is big, fat, has a screen and two analogues - much how concept art had pictured it. Right, let's see what it does...

Yup! You can continue playing the game on the controller when you change channels - draw with a stylus onto its touch screen.

It also has motion control, too, and combines with the wiimote and balance board. It's screen can be independant from what's being displayed on the TV.

Oh, it also teams up with the nunchuck..and does video calls...

Bloody heck, it's good.

09:45 - It's the Wii U! Right.

09:44 - I think that's it for 3DS news. They're about to reveal the name of the new home console...

09:42 - The free Pokedex is being talked about now.

For you guys at home - go to your system settings and update your 3DS if you haven't already seen it. It's quite cool to play around with

09:41 - It's all about today's 3DS update now - talking through the features like Virtual Console and game trailers.

09:39 - A very, very quick trail for Ace combat 3D, Mario and Sonic at the olympics 2012, Tetris, Cave Story 3D, Resident Evil Revelations and Mercenaries, Driver Renegade, Pac-man & Galaga Dimensions, Tekken 3D, and Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D just flashed across the screen.

My fingers are burning now

09:38 - Luigi's Mansion 2 now - new announcement. Looks a lot like the gamecube version, which is good.

09:36: It's 3 on 3 for multiplayer and uses AR cards "for battles". It's out this year

09:35 - Kid Icarus now - looking just as fast and confusing as it ever did. I'll be very surprised if the 3D on this doesn't cook your eyeballs - there's a lot of explosions, bright colours and quick cuts.

Multiplayer mode included - team based angel vs angel with ranged and melee combat

09:33 - It's very traditional in a way - there's the underwater bits, bowser etc., but the levels look like the kind seen in Mario 64 (which is very good in my books).

It's out before the end of the year

09:32 - Mario's up now. "First 3D Mario adventure created from scratch for a portable system".

Woah, looks great

09:31 - Starfox can be controlled with the gyro now, and multiplayer can use the camera's live feed to project an image of your face as you play.

Available in September in the US

09:30 - It's out "Holiday 2011". Now we're onto Starfox

09:29 - Customisable karts are being show, including ones with propellers for traveling underwater, and monster truck wheels.

09:28 - Reggie's up on stage now. All those titles previously mentioned are playable at the event. He's talking through them now.

Mario Kart (new logo, by the way) now has hang gliders!

09:26 - Nope! He's teased us - we've gone to the 3DS instead! So Mario Kart, Mario, Luigi's Mansion, Starfox, and Kid Icarus are all coming this year to the 3DS

09:22 - Oh! He's gone straight to Project Cafe. I hope that doesn't mean the 3DS is going to be ignored

09:21 - Iwata is up on stage now. He's talking about the wide-ranging types of people that Nintendo appeals to

09:20 - Miyamoto thanks all the fans over the years of the series. Isn't that nice?

09:18 - Legend of Zelda soundtrack being handed out for free for the first people to register Skyward Sword on Club Nintendo

09:16 - Sorry, our website is breaking. Right, so Zelda is coming to the 3DS next week (as you know) in the form of Ocarina of time, Skyward Sword is coming for the Wii (as you already know, too).

Now what you didn't know is that Four Swords is coming to the DSi/3DS for free and Link's awakening is coming to the eShop today

09:11 - More songs, you say? Yup - they're now playing incidental music from the series

09:09 - Nice. Here comes Miyamoto to talk about 25 years of Zelda. 25 years?! damn, I feel old now

09:08 - Everyone sing along to Zelda's theme! #Doo-da-doo#

09:06 - To be fair, it sounds more like a montage of themes. There's a choir singing now. Anyway, it's great - more orchestras, please

09:05 - And we're off! Starting with a montage of Zelda games with the theme music being played by an orchestra on stage.

I think we're in for some Skyward Sword...

09:05 - While we're waiting, what are you guys most excited about? New 3DS games or the reveal of Project Cafe?

09:04 - Still waiting for the event to start.

09:00 - Will here. I'll be taking you through Nintendo's presentation until Rob shows up, I'm afraid. Just trying to get a reliable feed right now, but should be starting in a few minutes
