Ubisoft's World Rally Championship 2011 revs up for 3DS launch this October

The likes of Asphalt 3D and Ridge Racer 3D - both recipients of Pocket Gamer Bronze Awards - have got the 3DS off to a flier with arcade motorphiles, but Ubisoft is set to ensure the offroad sim fan is also catered to with World Rally Championship 2011.

The publisher gained UK publishing rights to both the WRC and SBK (Superbike) licences a fortnight ago from Tradewest, and World Rally Championship 2011 is gearing up to be the first release following the acquisition.

Players can expect an extensive suite of official cars, drivers, and courses, though it remains to be seen whether the 3DS version will match the content of the home console releases.

Italian developer Milestone is still behind the wheel of both games, but the deal should guarantee a higher profile for both series, whose sales have historically struggled to match their undoubted quality.

World Rally Championship 2011 is scheduled to arrive around October, and we’ll bring you more news on the 3DS version as and when we get it.
