It's Christmas. That means the staff of Pocket Gamer is drunk, if not on alcohol then on the giddying sensation that comes from receiving numerous expensive presents.

All this frivolity means we're not writing stories today. To enable you to connect with us in a different way - one that doesn't involve the transmission of news, reviews, and features concerning the world of portable gaming - we've decided to go on about ourselves a bit.

If stranded on a desert island, Steel Media managing director Chris James's luxury item would be a Segway, and his book would be What You See is What You Get: My Autobiography, by Sir Alan Sugar. His eight music choices would include Survivor's seminal soft-rock hit 'Eye of the Tiger', and seven cover versions of 'Eye of the Tiger'.

Favourite portable gaming platform?

Probably have to say the iPhone ultimately, narrowly beating the iPad, as these are the devices I keep coming back to, although I hope Android handsets and tablet will challenge in the near future.

In terms of consoles, DS is still great but I gave mine up earlier in the year and I keep trying to rekindle enthusiasm for the PSP but Sony just never can't seem to get their act together.

Favourite portable game of the year...

I've been playing a lot of strategy games recently - Last Front HD, Settlers of Catan, Dominion HD on iPad - and there have been a lot of iphone games I've genuinely enjoyed such as Cross Fingers, Cut the Rope and Broken Sword, but ultimately I can't see much beyond Plants vs Zombies.

...and of all time?

Ooh, tricky. There's actually been so many good portable games. I used to really enjoy some mobile titles like the PlayMan sports series and Townsmen, Gameloft, Digital Chocolate and Glu all made a lot of good titles too that I enjoyed like Towerbloxx, Stranded, and the Real Football series.

Flight Control has to be up there, but I also loved Zen Bound and went through a Peggle addiction. Enjoyed Patapon, LocoRoco, and Burnout Legends on PSP and Advance Wars, Yoshi's Island, MarioKart, and Ninjatown on DS.

Then there are the Game Boy classics like Super Mario and even the Neo Geo which had some smart little games...hmm, that's too many isn't it? Did I mention Tikki Towers? Okay, okay if I have to pick one it"ll be Flight Control...or Peggle...or Playman Summer Games 2.

Let's just move on eh?

Favourite home console game of the year...

FIFA 11, just bloody awesome, although to be fair I've mainly used my Xbox 360 as a DVD player and the Wii is back in its box.

...and of all time?

PC rather than console, but it has to be between Total Annihilation (true strategy genius) and various iterations of Football Manager.

Although having said that, Sensible Soccer on Amiga is still probably my favourite ever game (and certainly the most played - ahhh university!)

Will you be getting a 3DS?

Almost certainly, although I'll probably end up donating it to the team (along with my DS and PSP)

What are you hoping to get for Christmas?

Well you know Rob, I just really want world peace and goodwill to all men (aside of course from investment bankers, football/estate agents or right wing politicians). Failing that and while we await a machine that can somehow generate additional time, I quite fancy Kinect actually.

What's your new year's resolution?

Numerous as usual - attempting to retain some work-life balance, getting back into shape, and of course driving Pocket Gamer on to bigger and better things for all!
